earBuzz Review:
Ray Kaminsky has put an elegant and gentle touch of acoustic guitar and vocals on 12 contemporary pop and bluegrass (even Celtic) tunes (once again, a complete list is at the end of this review) in his 1987 CD, "Classic Acoustic". The CD opens with "Bold Orion on the Rise", a folk tune about the constellation accompanied by hammer dulcimer. The following track, "The Band Played Waltzin' Matilda", is a six-minute Celtic-like story about the struggles of life and what the band played while the 'ship' sailed off - mp3'd here, the final music from the tune, which, of course, is Waltzin' Matilda. Kaminsky does McLean, as he pays homage to the singer/songwriter in his rendition of "And I Love Her So", a well done and beautifully arranged version of this Don McLean classic. In the long mp3 song, track 9, "The Faith of Man", Kaminsky employs oboe and fiddle in this Bill Staines penned folk tune. The performance is so easy-going - breezy - relaxing and comforting - as Kaminsky's strength is in the sincere and light approach he takes to the music he performs.
