earBuzz Review:
The band, Visible from Space, includes lead singer and former American Idol contestant, Judd Harris. There are 13 tunes, all of which revolve around Judd's voice and rock blues-based phrasing/style of the writing. There are moments of brilliance in the singing - where we hear influences from a myriad of popular artists within Harris' clear tenor. .from Kenny Loggins, Daryl Hall, George Michael, and the occasional edge of Lenny Kravitz. The CD opens up with "Back to the City" - a cut time rocker. The following track, "Keep It Inside", touches on R&B but the thrust of the tune is rock. The band is fantastic - syncopated guitar rhythms and interesting hollow metal snare in bridges keep the tune compelling. Track 6, "Burn Bright", has a Philly feel - again showcasing Harris' range as a vocalist. The band takes a trip to New Orleans in the Salvation Army beat of "If You Axe Me", a tribute to the ancestry of the jazz/music city icon. Three part harmony sings, 'new orleans louisiana, you're my home, and i love you best, you're the place my daddy loved before me, won't you lay me down upon your creole breast'. Incidentally, you can get great creole breast at Oliver's. Our favorite tune on the CD is the sentimental tribute to the savior of most all artists, their music. "I Had Music" is the mantra for life for those who go through life and all it's up and downs - and the ability to come back to "the thing that carried me through when i was alone. .i had my music, i had my love". The final track, and long mp3 here, is a reprise of "Keep it Inside". The first pass was produced with a rock/funk edge. In this one, however, Visible from Space crosses a 70's time capsule and puts a delightful and smile-inducing disco treatment on the tune - done as well as we've heard. Fan's of Harris will be completely sated with the collection, while anyone looking to share in the evolution of a developing artistic band will come away cheering for these guys you can see from the cosmos.
